As my post title indicates, that is how I spent the weekend. It is interesting how the most random of posts can end up being voted by so many readers as “rocking their vote”. For example, when I went onto the site, these are the most recent popular posts:
1. Portal: The Flash Version Solution Guide Download
2. The Highest Escalator in the world
3. JobsDB Career Fair is really boring
4. Cute Malay Girl Behind the Counter
5. Business Tip #1: Can’t Find a Job? Its OK…. Just Remember to Keep your Used Underwear
6. …
I think you get the idea, it is completely random! Having looked through the top ten, there is no common denominator for the votes. We always assume there are some topics which everyone will be very interested in and would show up on any site that ranks by votes. However, this is apparently not the case here. I mean, how many of us would actually vote in some post that links to a Flash Guide download?
This is not to say that such posts are not worth our time, in fact, this is one of the cool things about social bookmarking sites. They often throw up such random posts which people may find useful. Not to say that I found the guide of any use!
But, I did come across a few posts which i totally agree with. One of which: “The best food comes wrapped in shit.” KAKAKAKAKA. It’s really simple, like how in Singapore, we commonly say you will not find great food from stores with an “A” rating? (not unless you pay an arm and a leg, make that 2 arms and a leg for your meal) Well, the same logic applies. The post talks about this really great nasi lemak which came wrapped in newspapers. You must be thinking, how does that equate to shit? Easy; how many of you bring newspapers to the loo when you intend to take a dump? My guess is, at least 60% of people do ( I know I do.) so. When you leave the toilet, you generally wash your hands, but, you do not wash your newspapers, so there is a risk that there may be some shit particles on the papers which may then be used to wrap your food. So there.
Completely random? You are right. It is. Not interesting to you perhaps? It is, to me. Well, generally food related stuff is interesting to me. Haha.
Anyone a registered Malaysian voter? Whilst browsing through RockYourVote, I came across this post from http://www.noktahhitam.com/ where the writer has designed opposition banners for interested parties to copy and paste on their websites. Haha, apparently, he wanted to do banners for the ruling parties as well but decided against it since the mainstream media is already so firmly on their side. This is an interesting facet of Malaysian politics which I have been seeing in my random browsing. It seems that we share a lot in common with our neighbours across the Causeway in the way that media works. The minority voice only seems to get heard in alternative media and not be afforded significant credit by mainstream media. It would be refreshing to see how the Malaysian bloggers fare in their election campaigns, would their alternative media platform be sufficient against the party machinery and mainstream media of the ruling BN?
Haha, looks like I have digressed, but then again, I came across the website in RockYourVote. So yeah, when you have a weekend that was as boring as the one I just had, take a look in RockYourVote. Who knows? There may be something right up your alley.
