Marrying the right girl or the right race?

March 3, 2008 · 5 Comments

Well, while it may be easy for you to fall in love and get married after a few months or few years of courtship, you may want to watch what’s your partner’s race in Malaysia before you drop the question.

Reason being, from my understanding, a Malaysia’s muslim is NOT allow to marry someone who is a non-muslim,  especially if his/ her right one is a Christian! While a Malaysia’s non-muslim, such as Malaysia’s Christian, Malaysia’s Hindu or Malaysia’s Buddhist couples is by law have the freedom to marry the right one of any race.

Now, Billi Lim of Dare to Fail who is running for election, decides if he gets elected he will go forth and encourage more inter-marriages…read more here.

Is Malaysia ready for this? It was after all the government who impose regulations that the Malaysia’s muslims are by law not allowed to have inter-marriages…so are they going to be persuaded to lift the ban once Billi Lim gets a seat?

On one side of the coin, it is much celebrated by the ‘open-minded’ citizens, who believes such practice will be able to further strength the unity of the country. However,  for those who have strong faith in islam (here’s one unhappy), all I can say is “Good Luck, Billi!”
